The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, spoke at The Heritage Foundation on April 15, 2008, about the state of the U.S. military and its role in the world.
When we "win" the war in Iraq, I wish one of our "leaders" would tell us exactly what we have won. The end of terrorism? No. Stability in the Middle East? No. Democracy in Iraq? No. If our goal, as the world's police department is to topple every dictator, we will go bankrupt; the dollar is worth much less now. Why do we, unlike other countries, have to spend billions on foreign bases? America first should mean spending our tax dollars at home - education, infrastructure and health care.
