  • @JayPhilosopher You introduce 60-80 different philosophers in one semester! Either your an amazing teacher at or your drowning your students with ideas. Just because you can see the sun doesn't mean you can leave the earth.

Instead of throwing one philosopher on top of another, I'd suggest considering giving your students a basic few (12 at most) with contrasting ideas that they can get a good grasp of.

  • @shilohwillcome I generally introduce my students to some 60-80 different philosophers in my introductory course in Philosophy. While I know a great deal about some of them, there are others that I know only a relatively small amount about. Other people who have studied them more can certainly give insights into them that I lack.

Knowing the limits of your knowledge and knowing where to look to for help with those limits is an important part of being a good teacher.

  • @TheMysticTater This seems to make sense, but does Kierkegaard hold this?

  • @JayPhilosopher It seems to me that if you have show a video of a teacher teaching instead of yourself teaching, you should no be teaching.

  • I love Rick Roderick.

  • They teach philosophy in Texas?

  • This guy is great!

  • Not being conscious of being a self is the result of the lack of communication - relation to God. So, when this relation is breached, the self despairs and attempts to purge it's despair with the sensual. Of course, the sensual is not infinite, so the void becomes dilapidated.

  • I love it. The self is the despairing relation. Nice.

I am thinking about showing this video in my Introduction to Philosophy class, but I am afraid it will be too advanced and scare the students.
