Xian, the world's biggest city at one time and the birthplace of many engineering and architectural marvels of ancient China, is resurrected with computer animation, dramatizations and scientific revelations reliving the glory of its long-lost past.

A massive, near-impenetrable wall encloses the ancient city of Xian, the starting point of the Silk Road route from China into Europe. Made from a base layer of earth, quick lime, and glutinous rice extract and further fortified by a layer of bricks, the strong wall snakes around the city at a length of 13.7 kilometres. Besides being an engineering achievement, the wall is also believed to be the world's largest and most complete ancient military defense system that remains intact today. MAN MADE MARVELS: CHINA'S FORGOTTEN CITY goes behind the walls of this fortress to provide invaluable insight into the military science and architecture of the Ming Dynasty.

I see how it pleases some narrow-minded people to blame Manchus for every faults that have been done to China, so they can continue to live in the illusions of being a victim to escape the pain of tragic past.

I think if one really cares about the development of China, he should stop obsessing with irrelevant blame-assigning of the past, but focus more about how to make the future of China brighter.

I have to agree with the other guy. One thing separates the Mongolian Yuan dynasty from Manchu Qing Dynasty from is the later focused on adapting Han culture and run on Han system to rule for 300 years. And Ming dynasty left a terrible model for Manchus to copy from. Chances for Enlightenment and Capitalism all emerged in Ming dynasty yet did not flourish. These were opportunities you won't get again in a closed society as China was once they were gone.

ming tax rate is 1 out of 30. Ming emperor during that time raised the tax because manchu animals massacred millions of Han civilians in Liao Dong . The tax raise was for national defense. it is not like manchu barbarian's chef who use the tax, the military buget to build park for self luxuary spending.
