Fair Isle knitting involves knitting with 2 colors in one row, with no more than 6 consecutive stitches of a color. The technique is simple if you remember the basic rules shown in this tutorial. It should be noted that it's possible to knit fair isle in a flat piece of knitting, but this video demonstrates the technique as it is done while working in the round.

  • I've probably looked at this more than once. If my observation is correct the main color of the hat is on the left side with the yarn (blue) on bottom. Then the design/secondary color is (orange) on your right side with that color on top.

I hope I got that right, you inspired me to finally try fair isle knitting and just I finish the ribbing of a hat. It will also be my first hat on circs too :) please keep making videos :)

  • Thanks so much!!! I'm trying to teach myself stranded knitting and by far I like your video the best!
