Vinyl (MCS 6700) - Frank Zappa - Po-Jama People

Turntable: MCS 6700 Direct Drive
Phono Cart: Denon DL-110
Preamp: Rega Fono Mini
Stereo: Marantz 2235b

Recorded at 24/96 (24-bit, 96kHz) on Audacity.

Notes -- The fourth song on side one from Frank Zappa's 1975 LP, One Size Fits All. This album marked the final use of "The Mothers of Invention," even though the original Mothers of the '60s ("I'm Jimmy Carl Black and I'm the Indian of the group") were long since gone. Ah, well. This album is excellent, brilliant compositions, excellent arrangements, and Zappa's outstanding guitar solos.

The MCS 6700 turntable was JC Penny's top-line model of the late 1970s. It's a rebranded Technics SL-1900 with a larger frame, more stylish buttons, and the same excellent Technics sound. It's a terrific turntable.

The phono cartridge is the always-excellent Denon DL-110, a high-output moving coil. The phono preamp is the Rega Fono Mini, a sterling champ that is sadly overlooked. And the stereo receiver is my venerable Marantz 2235b from 1977.

  • My last hairs standing UP! Real!

  • @MsVictor1956 Thanks! This was a really terrific system - the MCS/Technics table, Denon cart, and Rega phono stage gelled together perfectly. That's not easy to achieve, as I've learned the hard way this past year. I'm happy I was able to get a lot of recordings when I had the chance.
