U.S. Senator from Arizona and Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain gives his views on American immigration reform.

The Aspen Institute hosts Republican Presidential candidate John McCain as a featured speaker at a special installment of the McCloskey Speaker Series. The series is made possible by a gift from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation.

After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1958, John McCain began his career as a Naval aviator. In 1982, he was elected to Congress representing what was then the first congressional district of Arizona. In 1986, he was elected to the United States Senate to take the place of Arizona's great Senator Barry Goldwater. Senator McCain is currently the senior senator from Arizona.

In 2000, Senator McCain ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He is currently the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services. He also serves on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.

McCain formally announced his candidacy for the 2008 presidential election on April 25, 2007.

Senator McCain has seven children and four grandchildren. He and his wife, Cindy, reside in Phoenix.

@adolfolez123 My parents immigrated legally to the U.S. so they could have a better life. They followed all laws and procedures. Why should illegal immigrants be allowed to come to the U.S. without following rules like my parents had to do? It's not fair, it's like rewarding people for breaking the law. Our father learned a trade that became a worthwhile career and they started a family. Now, years later, my parents are both retired and living comfortably and I have a family. Go Ron Paul 2012!
