According to a recent statement from the EU Commission's Barroso, Turkey WILL be joining the EU.
Though polls have shown in both Europe AND Turkey ( population 72 million ) that a majority are against joining....public opinion is being ignored ( as usual ) by our un-elected masters in Brussels.
The Lisbon Treaty insists that all states should expand their "military capabilities" ( page 39 ), and Turkey's membership will make the planned EU Army larger than that of the U.S.A.
Paradoxically, the EU has succeeded because its laws & treaties stopped member-states from preventing people being able to do what they would do voluntarily: Travel freely, use a common currency, etc. The EU is about western culture in the 21st century under a uniformity of law. Even the elite are of the people & are not above the law, nor should they want to be if they aspire to security of property rights, which are imperilled. Democracy, to the extent proposed by DG, is a distraction.
