Indiana Political Leaders Speak Out on MAC Asphalt Plant Issue in Jeffersonville
Say Quality of Life is Not Acceptable After Visits to Site

Indianapolis, March 29, 2010: In an explosive new Eye on Construction video report, Indiana State Representative Steve Stemler and Indiana State Senator Connie Sipes speak out on the MAC Asphalt plant issue in Jeffersonville. Representative Stemler states that senior citizens and other residents living near the asphalt plant have a legitimate concern and after personal visits to the site he finds the quality of life just not acceptable.

Senator Sipes commented that the residents near the plant had been cooperative and offered solutions to the issues. Senator Sipes also stated that although residents had contacted her and Representative Stemler in an effort to resolve the issues to the benefit of all parties, members of MAC Construction, owners of the asphalt plant, had never contacted her office.

Representative Stemler has been instrumental in facilitating meetings with various Indiana State agencies and the residents living near the plant. Representative Stemler and Senator Sipes both pledged to continue their work toward a resolution to the problems surrounding the plants location near residential neighborhoods. Senator Sipes stated that she would like to see Jeffersonville local government get involved in finding a resolution to the issues surrounding the plant.

Representative Stemler and Senator Sipes got involved with the issues surrounding the plant in the Fall of 2009. Some of the issues include hours of operation for the plant, trees that were logged out of a buffer zone near one neighborhood, fumes, odors, and noise.

Stemler represents Indiana House District 71 and Sipes represents Indiana Senate District 46. Both districts represent the senior citizens and residents who now live in the shadow of the asphalt plant.

This is the fourth Eye on Construction video report on this issue. All of the reports may be viewed at the INCIN web site at: www.incin.org
