The point of this "match" was to make fun of WCW and its overreliance of has-been wrestlers from the 80's.

He was getting old in 95/96... The NWO rejuvenated his career but never turned back the clock in terms of his fitness which was bottoming out.

His return to WWE in '02 was after an extended break during which he actually managed to learn new maneuvers and corrected his bullyboy "contract clause" attitude. He was fitter in '02 than he was in '95. His Wrestlemania match against the Rock was a real classic, even though you knew he already won it even before the feud started.

Vince was horribly hypocritical with this stuff. First off, he stole everyone's talent and television time slots in the 80's when he expanded. Second, I have to point out that while he's hammering WCW for having old stars, he has Jake Roberts, Ultimate Warrior and Roddy Piper all active at this point; and later brought back everyone with the exception of Savage. Hell, he was even negotiating with Macho later that year. Then again, I never expect Vince to subscribe to reality.
