In February 2010, Madeira experienced heavy flooding and mudslides after a violent storm, killing at least 42 people and causing extensive damage.

I was there in May 2010. I was in Calhete for the Dr Antonio Ribeiro Tournament to catch Blue Marlin, but I visited Funchal and other towns too. The recovery was amazing, in many places the signs of the flooding were already completely cleared away. In Funchal all the beautiful gardens along the esplanade and even in the town were repaired and looking beautiful. The Madeiran people were very brave, and are very resilient. Typical islanders. Go to Madeira for great fishing , beautiful scenery .
