Here I am playing Leo Kottke's "William Powell" on my new (and, yes, already damaged) Mahogany Baby Taylor. I had to EQ the hell out of this video...for some reason, the sound really distorts in a few spots...sorry about that. And btw, I'm not a crazed lunatic...though I look like one in this video. I'm actually staring at the monitor of the second camera, making sure my hands don't move out of frame as I play. My point of obsession on WP involves that dissonantly weird middle section, particularly the "up high / down low" bit...I was intrigued by how/why it never seems to sound like it does on the "My Father's Face" recording. Anyway...I have no idea if I'm succeeding, as I've only heard myself play this song a bazillion times now.

  • I think I have thumb envy.....

Thanks for all the incredible videos! DD

  • I did go down and picked up a Baby T. They'd sold the last mahogany one so I took a spruce one instead. For $290.00 plus tax CDN, I'll get a mahogany one also, but later! This guitar is amazing! Perfect size, huge tone, great action. I love this thing! It speaks better than several of my full sized dreadnoughts. I don't know what it is about these wee Mexican made beasties, but they have the same quality-feel as the big Taylors. I just might put a pickup in this thing & use it live.

  • guitar god

  • That was great! This song is exhausting to play at full length...

  • awesome! btw how is the action on that taylor?

  • Great video and great playing..

I've watched it a number of times already. I love that crazed look on your face, it suits the song so well but also makes you look like there's someone pointing a gun at your head and forcing you to play their favourite song... that happens to be "William Powell"...hehe.

  • Outstanting video. Convinced me! I am now done shopping around. The BT2 is the guitar for me. Leo is incredible...

  • Wow, great job. Watching you play that is as much fun as watching Kottke himself, it brings the possiblity of actual playing it myself into the realm of mere mortals.

  • incredibly difficult song, you're an amazing guitar player

  • The best Baby Taylor video I've yet seen.

I know what you mean 'whitebreadandgoatman' I put a nice ding in the face of mine with a file cabinet drawer upon returning from 'lunch' (aka The local music store!). Maybe that's a way the good ones 'brand' themselves to your 'ranch' as there's no turning back once you do this receipt or not! .......ha ha.. couldn't be happier.

  • well done! sounded perfect and the baby Taylor sounds fantastic!
