This is another view of the O type binary star system that I uncovered in my Spore game. Here I am on one of the planets in the system.

The amazing thing about this video is that it shows a very important physics/astronomy concept- tidal locking. In some cases the orbits of planets or moons around a central body match up just right with their rotation rate so that the same side is always facing the object being orbited.

In this case the planet always has the same side facing the binary stars! I was able to find a very nice spot on the planet and just park there and take the video. From that spot it looked as if the stars were always just about to set.

You can clearly still see that the stars orbit one another as they swing around, but they always stay in the same area of the sky. Again I am truly amazed at how well the programmers made the space stage adhere to real life physics.

*fyi- this wasn't a perfectly tidal locked planet. If I sit on the planet for over 10 minutes or so eventually the lit hemisphere moves, but very VERY slowly.

  • If a binary system has two stars FAR apart, and a planet between them, voila! Eternal midday.

Yeah, i wished that spore 2005 will come up for sale anyway, it atleast had blood, no kid friendly stuffz0r, and an underwater stage, and a monucliar stage (tetris like, apperently), and a city stage, between the tribe and civilication stage.

  • @simpsfutur Are you sure it wouldn't just slowly roast?

  • @daveboy2000 *Cry Cry :<*

  • @KingofSkullkid452 Nah, even Mercury is breathtaking. One sunrise to sunset, the sun keeps switching back and forth between going east and west.

  • @simpsfutur and no seasons!

  • @beanio12 Spore was more realistic in 05. (Beta) They had stars that would blow up sooner or later, super novas, shooting stars, realistic movements, no kid-like actions, everything realistic.

  • its tatooine

  • @MrKillJoy200 That would be awesome ^o^

    o3o!!!

  • @bsgcylon86 It's not BinaryO, it's BinaryGG.
