The Edge from U2 discusses how he got into Rory's music, his influence and Rory's guitar style.

Ghost Blues - The Story of Rory Gallagher

This superb two disc DVD set tells for the first time the complete and fully authorised story of Rory Gallagher. On disc one "Ghost Blues" follows Rory's life and career from his upbringing in Cork, his early days with a showband, the brief success of Taste and then his legendary solo career leading up to his health problems in later life and tragic death at the age of just 47. There are archive interviews, both audio and visual, with Rory and contributions from many of his friends and admirers including his brother Donal, Bob Geldof, The Edge, Cameron Crowe, Slash, Ronnie Drew, Bill Wyman, band members and many more. Disc two "The Beat Club Sessions" then shows what Rory Gallagher was really all about -- a magnificent live performer. Drawn from three different appearances on the German TV series "Beat Club", this disc contains over 90 minutes of previously unreleased live performances which illustrate why he inspired so many of the musicians who pay tribute to him in "Ghost Blues".

  • U2 don't pay taxes in Ireland as all their multi million turnover empires are registered offshore where the tax regimes favour fat cat profiteers like them.

They preached to Irish citizens about voting for various Euro treaties and recently told them that they should not criticise but be thankful to the corrupt developers and bankers who ruined the country.

Yet those embarrassing imitations of Irishmen once had the neck to cover Woody Guthrie's 'Jesus Christ'. Jesus and Woody wept!

  • Rory Gallagher was the most underrated musician that Ireland has produced and it is a crying shame that his talents are not recognised as they should be..

His skill in delivering the Blues can only be prepared to that of Clapton in the UK, both men knowing and living the torment that makes them stand out as great blues players but sadly Rory Gallagher did not live long enough to achieve the world recognition that he deserved for his dedication to the Blues.

    R.I.P. Rory

Woody or Jesus never had to do with guys like U2, I guess. ;-)

I find your statement about "embarrassing imitations of Irishmen" so good because it really hits the nail on the head. Actually, many too many embarrassing imitations of Irishmen, of French, Indian, American,Greek and whatever else...

Better we get rid of them, all over the world. In other words, who needs "the Edge" when we got Rory? Rory is a real edge and we should not bother about "the Edges of U2".

    Glad, you understood me!

  • @kickniko Okay.

The title was "Rory Gallagher Ghost Blues - The Edge ". So I thought it refers to Rory and his music using the words "the edge" as a description for his qualities. Up to now I didn't know that Evans the starlet calls himself... "the Edge".

So I clicked on it, expecting to see mainly Rory with some few comments of Evans or other guys distributed here and there. And what I got was an word diarrhea from a self declared starlet! It is "Madonna tries heavy metal" here.

  • @kickniko Okay, fair enough. But why do you watch this then, if you don't like it?

  • @stillilllife

That such hollywoodian puppets like all guys of U2 simply get ridiculous when they try to demonstrate that they "belong" to the same category as somebody like Rory.

So, there you have that mediocre "Edge" pretending to be a musician - it is much like having the luxury wife (or paid harlot) of some swiss banker talking about politics of neutrality and peace. ;-)

Come on Edge, go play the connoisseur to kids of Beverly Hills, but leave us in peace, OK?

  • @kickniko What do you mean?

  • It would be instructive to learn the truth behind how U2 were marketed to the world over time. Success is today's world is too much about the behind-the-store dealing and too little about the music being made

  • I want to buy the DVD but do I have to listen to this DB in it?!!!! Maybe they will make an edited version with out "The Wedge" in it

  • @martymcguinness by the way...the "edge" isnt even Irish. He's fkn Welsh. ...over-rated baldy frigger. They did ONE good album ("Boy") and they shouldve stuck with that instead of trying to crucify themselves. There is no Rory in anything they have ever done. Nor anyone else. Nobody touches Rory.
