During the first couple years of the "New" Illinois Central, that came into effect in March, 1988, IC Trains could have very colorfull locomotive lashups. Take this train for Example, It has paintschemes from all of its Predecessor Railroads
IC GP10 #8709 in the New Illinois Central "Deathstar" Scheme
IC GP10 #7914 In the OLD Illinois Central (Pre-ICG) Orange and White Scheme
GM&O GP38-2 # 714 in Pure GM&O colors
And ICG SD40 #6002 in ICG Charcol and Orange
This was just some of the interesting Lashups that could have been found in the first years of the new IC. However, Things did not last long this way, as unlike ICG, the new IC wanted everything in Uniform colors.
Heres a little known fact!
The FINAL GM&O locomotive was repainted in 1992, a full 20 years after the the IC/GM&O Merger took effect!
I guess its neat that the GM&O paint lived on that long, too bad the same can not be said for the railroad itself, ICG destroyed what had been a great railroad.

I wish IC would have reverted back to the orange and white instead of the black "death star" scheme.
