RS485 Communication between 2 PICs

Hello~
I'm making a controller for my ROV these days, so that I should make a long Communication for it.
I think that RS485 can do it, so i searched how RS485 work, now i get it~
So if I built it, i can use a long cable to communication.

this test is using 2 PIC16F690s and 2 MAX485s, it'll change it a very long cable and test again, i believe that it can also work stable.

I'm trying to learn the same thing for a project. Although my knowledge is based mainly in c based programming of the 16F690. If you could maybe point me in the right direction for places to start looking at? Btw I have little to no experiences in communication.
