Remember that there's a lot of work behind fonts ONLY so that people don't stop and think about them. Knowing the story behind a font which only requires a split-second to read is something else and I'm not blaming you for not caring.

Helvetica is a little friendlier and fatter, but i have to see them side by side to know the difference. Except with the R... Ariel R is very ugly. I agree that they are over used on anything these days that wants to look modern and clever. White sheet, pink writing, and you can't tell the difference for an Ad for the Tate and an ad for an art gallery someone is running out of the boot of their car.
