"Most of you didn't know that Robert B. Parker was a poet. That's because his poems were written to me," says Joan Parker, Bob's wife, and the real life version of Spenser's long time love, Susan Silverman. Bob sold millions of books, had a PhD in English, and named his legendary detective after the 16th century writer, Edmund Spenser, so his giftedness as a poet isn't a surprise. In this clip, it's Joan's talent and tenderness that's enlightening.

  • OK, never mind, she really is Mrs. Parker. My apologies.

  • Who is this woman? I doubt very much she is Mrs. Parker.

  • Glad to see you and hear you after all the dedications in Robert's books. His work has been so dear to me and his loss is so saddening to me. I just came across the mention of it quite recently and it was a shock. I am ever thankful of his writings of Spencer, Susan, Hawk, 2 Pearls and of Wyatt Earp and crew and of Sunny and of many more characters and all the stories. The poetry is a beautiful touch as well, as my being a poet now makes me feel closer to all of his writings and styles. Brian
