Exact steps may vary depending on camera model but this quick tutorial shows you the benefit of using Live View to set your White Balance. Live View gives you a real time update of the settings as you change them, so you can get it right quickly without having to take test shots.

The back LCD of your camera is obviously not calibrated. However, the back of the D3, at least, is more than good enough to use to either get you in or close to the ball park - especially in those cases where Auto WB is completely wrong. I've used this method a few times and been happy with the results.

Shot with the Lumix TZ7, which is a bit grainy in the shadows. So it may not be perfect but I hope the information is of some use...I'll aim to improve the quality as I make more in future. More tips and photography related information on my blog http://www.richardpeters.co.uk/blog
