@peppa10 . From my child labor research and experience of travelling around India, I think that child labor is crucial to an extent in the sense that it is a needed source of funds to support their families. I strongly do not believe in prostitution or unsafe conditions for children who are working. I feel that right now, the best that can be done is to train the children, have them safe, and educate them for a better future. That way, they can survive in the present while securing their future.
The issue is that Gap outsources to manufacturers and these companies then outsource to make profit and pay salve labor. Gap has investigated and cut ties with those companies. Unfortunately, Gap is not alone in this problem. Nike, Apple and many more find themselves in this spot.
The unfortunate truth is that the 3rd world does what is needed to survive. Child workers is not uncommon. In north America children as young as 10 had jobs less then 100 years ago. It was considered perfectly normal.
