ARIA-award winning musician Seaman Dan talks about his life and music career. He talks about his family background, working as a pearl diver and his recording career that began when he was 69. This is a Storylines Q150 digital story. This digital story was made by the State Library of Queensland with funding from the Queensland Government. It is a legacy of the Q150 celebrations in 2009.

He may be retired but he sang yesterday at the Cultural Centre in Brisbane yesterday. What a honour to hear this living treasure.

I served him his gin and lemonade this arvo while he was in shout with a few of the old guard at the "Torres". He tipped me a few gold coins which I then promptly put in the jukebox and played a few of his memorable tunes. It is a privilege to have him pop in now and then to say gday to the "Torres" folks :) 82 not out not a bad average Awa ;)

I met Uncle Seaman when I worked at the Wongai on Horn Island in 2008. He really wad so warm and friendly to everyone. And I love his music.

Steady, steady, Awa Dan is still playing every Wednesday night at the Wongai on Horn island and every Sunday at the Torres on T.I. such a happy, genial person.
they broke the mold when they made this man.
