This is our foster greyhound Laurel. She exhibits this behavior between wake and sleep. There are no real bugs bothering her, although that's what it looks like she's doing, snapping at a fly or something. Last night she was sound asleep, jumped straight up out of bed, spun around, and started loooking wildly around the room - at the ceiling, at the floor, behind her, you get the idea. Our rescue group has a good idea what's going on as we've got another rescue in the group who has experienced behavior quit like this. Just posting this to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

  • Laurel, now Bella, found her forever home a few months ago and boy do we miss her. She was an all-star foster and it just broke my heart to let her go, She's in a great home now so she definitely has her happy ending!

  • @Claerith I agree with you about the medication. Also how can this dog get some "real" sleep???

  • "Fly snapping" is a sign of seizures. You should really put her on medication. They could get worse overtime.

  • The black one looks just like mine

  • The brown dog on the left has the same pattern as my greyhound Wrangler

  • @mooreinator1 I disagree... Try having your greyhound get into that belly-up "cockroach" position with their tail pointed at your head, while you're asleep. And then fart. I'm pretty sure I'd waaaay rather have a paw up the nose!

Of course I love him to death anyway.

  • My greyhound Guinness doesn't do anything like this, although he does run in his sleep sometimes.

  • Better than the full out sleep sprinting and whimpering while running in his sleep that my male greyhound does.

  • Lol both greyhounds I've had do something akin to this. We think it's the doggy version of sleep walking or really vivid dreaming :)

  • Hehe I love this. My greyhound does the same thing sometimes. I think it's because he has an itch or a muscle twitch (like when your eye twitches and won't stop) and he doesn't know what it is, so he just wildly snaps because he thinks something's crawling on him.
