MythBuster Adam Savage describes meeting President Obama as part of an event launching the national STEM initiative, a program geared towards increasing youth interest in math and science. "We went to the White House to film the Archimedes death ray episode," says Savage, referring to the President's request to test an invention by Archimedes in which mirrors reflecting the sun's rays set a Roman ship on fire in 212 BC.

MythBuster Adam Savage talks about inspiration with attendees of the 2011 Maker Faire Bay Area. What inspires you?

Adam Savage has spent his life gathering skills that allow him to take what's in his brain and make it real. He's built everything from ancient Buddhas to futuristic weapons, from spaceships to dancing vegetables, from fine art sculptures to animated chocolate and just about anything else you can think of.

Since 1993, Adam has concentrated on the special-effects industry, honing his skills through more than 100 television commercials and a dozen feature films, including Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Galaxy Quest, Terminator 3, A.I. and the Matrix sequels. He's also designed props and sets for Coca-Cola, Hershey's, Lexus and a host of New York and San Francisco theater companies. Not only has he worked and consulted in the research and development division for toy companies and made several short films, but Adam has also acted in several films and commercials -- including a Charmin ad, in which he played Mr. Whipple's stock boy, and a Billy Joel music video, "Second Wind," in which he drowns.

Today, in addition to co-hosting Discovery Channel's MythBusters, Adam teaches advanced model making, most recently in the industrial design department at the San Francisco Academy of Art. Somehow he also finds time to devote to his own art. His sculptures have been showcased in over 40 shows in San Francisco, New York and Charleston, W.Va.

  • what about that whole closing gitmo myth? and withdrawing from iraq? no need to debunk that crap is there?

  • "Then he was off again, doing far more important things..."

Damn MythBusters should've kept him there longer.

BTW, all this guy ever talks about is his own impressions of the President, of the White House, of how one affects the other... Nothing factual whatsoever, which honestly should be quite irrelevant at a channel that says 'The world is thinking.'

Unless it is renamed 'The world is too lazy to think, it prefers to get impressed.'

Stop copy-pasting William Lane Craig's arguments.

  • @HolyRevelation: God is the lazy solution. He's so simple. Simply take a phenomenom you can't explain and then custom-design an explanation that has zero to do with fact and tweak it until it fits. I can't explain why the vulcano spits fire? I explain it to mayself that the volcano is/or is used by a higher, powerful being who is pissed off (--> fire, dangerous, ergo it means god is pissed off) so I need to pray/sacrifice something/so something to calm him. That is religion in a nutshell.

  • @HolyRevelation: Says the guy who believes in a god created by ancient , superstitious people who over centuries complied, edited, re-edited a book. You believe what ancient people told you and the same people also thought the sun revolves around the earth, who created laws that you will now reject as evil, Middle Eastern tyrant laws.

I agree with you that believing in god is so much easier because he's designed to explain what we couldn't explain and partially still can't explain.

  • @HolyRevelation: Er, the scientific method IS a combination of predetermined knowledge, testing, logic, history and philosophy actually, just minus religion. Why do some religious people take it si hard that science doesn't need religion to progress? Besides, science doesn't aim for truth, it aims for facts. And this is a path of progress, change, re-assessment and confirmin or disproving theories.

  • @1980albatros :p funnily adam and jamie on that question both said, you can't disprove a negative.

  • @superfuzz Maybe GOD should be put on the chopping block. Thumbs up if you'd like to see that, I know i would. }:)

  • @HolyRevelation

Do you realize how you're coming across? Science is the most reliable method for distinguishing fact from fiction known to man. Can you think of a better method? Don't worry, I'll wait.

Logic and history are accessed using science.

  • @drche420 That is your problem, you're trying to use science to determine all true.

I don't just base my hypothesis on science, I also use, logic, history, philosophy, the Bible and life experience.

If science is the best method of determining truth from fallacy then what scientific method did you use to reach that conclusion?

  • @HolyRevelation

Religion of atheism? Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby.

Accidental truth? Truth is objective, meaning independent of the point of view. There is no such thing as 'your truth' or 'my truth'. There is only what is true and false. What is the best method of determining truth from fallacy? Science.

You assume I believe the universes existance is accidental. I never told you what I believe.

  • @drche420 "Evolutionist" is a word now so get over it, there's nothing you Atheists can say or do that will ever change that fact. Believing that denying the existence of things such as God and words will make them nonexistent is delusional.

If Evolutionists like you are correct and everything in existence is accidental and meaningless, then why is this topic so important to you? How could you even know what is true in your accidental World?
