USAF Thunderbirds

2010 Rhode Island ANG Open House & Airshow
Quonset State Airport
North Kingstown, Rhode Island
Sunday June 27, 2010

IN THIS VIDEO, this is the first time I had ever seen the Thunderbirds fly a high show over the skies of Quonset State Airport. I was surprised they would fly a high show since I thought the cloud deck was just under the minimums for a high show. I was also surprised to see the diamond do their lightning takeoffs (single ship takeoffs rather than the formation takeoff) and keep in mind that it was a very humid day, so the jets sound much louder than they normally do.

I apologize for the quality of the video. Throughout the day, I had bumped into the concrete block that was next to me and had gotten parts of it in the video. In addition, the heat haze also made filming difficult, especially for the jets.

If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take the time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • hey, steve, is the runway too short in this video.

  • @lukepevensie The reason they did the lightning takeoffs was the fact that the crowd line was only 425' from the centerline of the runway (the 500' line). The runway is plenty long for any jet team - heck we had the Raptor there last year! The Thunderbirds have done their normal diamond takeoff there in the past...come to think of it the fact they did the lightning takeoffs also solidifies why they said no loop on takeoff either...

  • @airshowfansh Have the blue angels performed there, and do they do a single ship takeoff?

  • @spins321 Blues would probably do their normal takeoff sequence like they always have... the Thunderbirds have done their normal takeoff sequence here in the past...

  • Female announcer?

  • @bassplaya1549 Yeah... Capt. Kristin Hubbard.

  • @airshowfansh which means she'll be flight leader for 2011 correct?

  • Can't wait to see the Blues there this year. This years show will also have the F-22 Raptor demo.

  • i love the thunderbirds and the music they use, F-16 F110-GE-100 turbofan at full throttle + AC/DC, GNR, or Motley Crue = epic win beyond anything else, it cant be beat, the only thing that could make it better is a hot chick along with it oh man
