Doom 2 Wad: Deus Vult II - Unholy Cathedral (Map21) Part 1

I am not gonna do these maps myself because they are just too hard but these videos are speedruns done by the best doomers in the world named Brian "Anima Zero" Nesser and Przemyslaw "Belial" Woda, these demos are included in the download of Deus Vult II.

Damn there sure are plenty of cathedrals in hell :P This one may be less epic
than the one from the original DV when it comes to the sheer size of the main
hall, but it sure is a lot more complex in both layout and architecture. This
is the only map that can rival map19 in terms of complexity and connectivity,
but it does so in a completely different fashion. The majority of the areas are
instantly accessible even if you don't use the magical shortcut intended for demo
recording, which leaves most of the route choices in the hands of the player.
There are no limits on progressing through the map in whichever way you please
since the only thing you are forced to do is getting two keys to open up the exit.
All of this can be summed up in one sentence: coming up with a good route is a
nightmare on par with dv02.
Now this is where the brief description of the route was supposed to go, but for
this map it would be anything but brief so I'll just give some general thoughts here.
You get the BFG right away so use it as often as you can, but keep in mind that
outside the central section ammo for it will be scarce so make sure you make the
shots count and keep a healthy supply of rockets to fall back on in case your cells
start running low. Getting the main fight over with quickly will let you use the
supplies placed there to safely restock at each visit. If you play it right you
should have one spare invulnerability, so use that to your advantage in whichever
way you see fit. There's nothing more annoying that can happen in this map than
getting blocked by lost souls on the way to the afrit secret at the manc curve.
Afrit attacks hurt like hell :P The library is the easiest section of the map so I
leave it for last. Finally, always make sure the secrets you visit get triggered.

o thx UnholyMessias!! is there some bug in ZDoom for this map that makes it impossible to get into teh room with teh 1st BFG 900 on all them piano keys??

@TheStiCat No it should work in all source ports, you have to push the use button on all the pillars you see in the video and it should open up.

cheers guys. i tried a million times to get into that middle section like its done here and nothing. then all of a sudden out of the blue it works. double you tea eff

@ggrtard I finally managed to get into the middle part. You just have to press use at these four spots: 0:12 (where you hear a click) and the pillars at 0:14, 0:20 and 0:25 (where you don't hear any clicks). Just hope you make proper contact with the buttons, run quickly and the platform will lower. I don't know why the author have felt the need to put in such a crappy hidden sequence in an anotherwise mind-blowingly awesome level. Good luck!

@ggrtard You have to press the use button on the walls at the start where it looks as if the player stands still and does nothing.

I would like to complete this map but I can't replicate the way you got into the middle stage just by looking at the video. Would appreciate any tips! The only way I can get in at the moment is by way of an archvile jump when they spawn later in the level. But then I don't have any access to the BFG. By the way, I watched the run quite a few times already and I must say, really well done :)

@UnholyMessias I think there are voodoo dolls elsewhere on the map that get pushed into berserk packs when you're in there. When a voodoo doll picks something up you pick it up as well, even though you can't see it happening.

i tried to play this by myself ..... i failed totally ... it´s the hardest wad i played so far ....the nutz.wad was very very easy compared to this (nutz is a joke though ^^)
