I went to Denver
Late last fall
I went to do my job
Yeah I didn't break any law
We worked a hippie place
Like many in our land
They couldn't bust the place
And so they got the band
'Cause the police in Denver
No, they don't want none of them long hairs hanging around
And that's the reason why
They want to tear Canned Heat's reputation down
You people in Denver
Will know what I mean
Yeah, the things I'm gonna tell ya
Yeah, you've all heard and seen
You remember when a cop on the beat
Used to rob and steal
Today they're gone, but the others get it on
So you know just how I feel
'Cause the police in Denver
Lord, they don't want none of them long hairs hanging around
And that's the reason why
They try to tear Canned Heat's reputation down
Yeah, they try to tear it down, boy
They ain't gonna do it though
Let me tell you this just one more time
Just one more thing I wanna tell ya
Before I go
It's a shame the Man in Denver
Has to lie and mistreat people so
Now six months ain't no sentence
One year ain't no time
When I hear from one to ten
It worries my troubled mind
'Cause the police in Denver
Lord, don't want no long hairs around
And that's the reason why
They try to tear Canned Heat's reputation down
I LOVE how Bob Hite says "reputation"! Dropping the 'u', just how Robert Johnson and most other bluesmen used to do. Great imitation

@MisterCrash241 "Stairway to Heaven" has been inspired by "Taurus" by Spirit. However "Stairway" is one of the greatest track ever written.

@TheRunner75 You know, I love 'Bobby Plant and Jimmy Page and "I" think their stuff is great! All of it, Especially "Stairway-to Heaven" and 'that' in not blues it is "Gospel", isn't it?

@MisterCrash241 Sorry, Willie Dixon is NOT credited. Though it's a rip-off. Same for Led Zeppelin who "forgot" to credit Black bluesmen in their 2 first albums. In spite of this, I love this track and LZ 2 first albums. It would have been more correct to mentions the real sources.

@TheRunner75 This is not 'no-rip-off'! There is another version where my 'good-buddy'"Big-Bob-the Bear"says then the 'judge walked down, poured 'whiskey on my hair' stuck a reefer in my pocket, and said "convict this hippie, he is just an 'addict'!! These guys did not have to 'rip-off' nothing from nobody! Besides most of their 'licks' can from the 'late' John Lee hooker anyway!! It is a 'true-story'!!

Of course it is, canned heat is known for their arrangement of blues classics.

I love this track and the whole album is top-notch, but this song is a rip-off "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man" composed by Willie Dixon and recorded in 1954 by Muddy Waters. This album is from 1968...
