http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Keyboards-and-Pianos/Synths-and-Workstations/sc1... The Roland AX performance Synth.
Here's a modern take on theose 80's style mobile keyboards that were made famous by Jan Hammer (everyone under 40 asks ... Jan who .... ? ) but the actual truth is that for the past 20 years Roland have been persistently badgered by keyboard and synth players asking for a mobile synth such as the Roland AX.
So in response to the many requests here's the latest mobile synth offering from Roland that will allow all budding keyboardists their 5 minutes of fame in the spotlight. The first thing potential purchasers should know is that the AX has its own sound generator on-board and does not need to be fed via MIDI from another synth or sound module, although it does have full MIDI implementation built-in for layering sounds and MIDI controller messages.
It's also packed full of the latest and coolest sounds from the Roland library and as you can see from the accompanying image is used with a shoulder strap much in the same way as a guitar - hence the "Key-Tar" name tag. It also has a few on board tricks of its own including a Ribbon Controller, D-Beam controller, a modulation bar not to mention the large easy to view back-lit display.
Specification-wise the Roland AX-Synth has 49 keys, can provide up to 128 voice polyphony and has 264 tones (Patches) on board, it has stereo 1/4 inch output jacks plus a USB port for connection to a PC or Mac. There's a headphone socket (1/4 inch jack) and the ability to plug-in a foot pedal plus the A/C power input that charges the 8 x Ni-MH internal batteries and allows up to 6 hours use whilst dis-connected from the mains ... It's also possible to download an editor/librarian software application for those who wish to customise their own AX patches.
