Eibhlin Aruin...(Eileen my treasure/darling Eileen)...Beautiful love song (one of the oldest)composed by a famous minstral Irish harper, Carrol O'Daly ...thought to have been composed in 1386. Described by old annilists as the 'chief composer of Ireland. The story goes that O'Daly was in love with Eileen - daughter of an Irish chieftan by the name of Kavanagh. She was being forced into a loveless marriage by her father so O'Daly disguised himself as in itinerent harper and arrived at the eve of her betrothol and sang this song to her. She eloped with him!. This is one of the most beautiful Gaelic songs ever composed.

  • Wonderful.

  • @Wad12br Thank you

  • Yes, Maureen and it shows. You own that song. I have heard many fine artists sing this song (in person) such as Mary O'Hara -who like you sang it in Irish- and have heard many others sing it in English translation (which is OK but lacks the maturity and mature tone of the original Irish Gaelic). But I have never heard a version better done than yours. Cum ort as they say in Scotland!!! ( I am part Irish by the way; my father's mother was born in Oban, Argyll of Irish parents in 1890!

  • @rothaich5 Thanks for your lovely comments. My father was born in Scotland and often he and my mother visited Oban. My son, Declan, is a musician and is based in Glasgow. You might see him among my videos" Maureen.

  • Soul moving! A testament of the human heart showing there still is the ability to soar as high as the heavens even though the ones toes are firmly rooted in the ground.

Thank you for brightening up the day.

    Cheers

  • There is no way your singing this song can be improved upon. Your singing is exquisite.
