This will go down in history as one of the greatest songs of the century ! I think it gives us all hope no matter what we face in the worldl that our day has yet to come.
Of all of Larry Knechtel's excellent musical achievements over a lifetime of music making, including his elegant piano and arranging skills on this & the original version of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' by Simon & Garfunkel, I still thrill to the epitome of rock piano as he played it on the Johnny Rivers cover of Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu. Larry told me on the phone in our only conversation they did it in one take. Just the best ever piano work in that genre. May he RIP.
Larry Knechtel was a dear sweet old codger. He was also an amazing musician of herculean proportions. He could play an amazing solo on the B3 and then jump down and show the bass player just how he was supposed to play his licks and do it with grace and style. I miss him.
Who can tell me where I can find Larry's instrumental 'bridge' without anybody singing ? I have looked everywhere but one place...
