Using a 2006 Gibson '58 Reissue Les Paul with Fralin 8k/9k humbucker set and Dr. Vintage control kit. The cab is a closed-back Bogner 2x12" cab loaded with WGS ET65 speakers. Stock Electro-Harmonix preamp tubes and SED EL34 power tubes in the Landry.

As I mentioned in the video, my amp has recently been tweaked by Bill Landry. I asked him to do a few things and now it sounds even more killer (in my opinion, of course.) The gain has been increased a tiny bit on the distortion channel and the bass reduced on both the regular distortion and high gain modes.

PS - The "hum" you hear is caused by me sitting real close to the amp and the lights in my music room.

  • Would you say the Fralins are a big change from the stock Humbuckers, or just subtle.

  • @kicknadeadcat I know without a doubt that people won't agree with me, but I recorded a quick audio clip (that I no longer have) of my Les Paul with the Fralins and the stock BurstBuckers and there was very minimal difference. The Fralins had slightly less highs (a little darker), but not much difference in this particular guitar.

  • Do you still have the landry amp today?

  • @skunizzi No, I don't. I sold almost all of my big dollar items and now just have a few guitars and two low/medium priced amps.

  • That sounds really good! How do you like the ET65's? I'm thinking of getting 4 of those for my 4x12.

  • @dbhammond Thanks! I liked the ET65s in the Bogner 2x12" cab. They were warm and meaty. Sounded awesome! However, I tried an ET65 in an open back combo once (Peavey Classic 30) and didn't like it AT ALL. I much prefer the Veteran 30 in the Peavey.

I guess I'm saying it just depends on the cab, amp, guitar, etc... I'd expect them to sound killer in a 4x12" cab.

  • @jakial Thanks man! It really depends on the guitar. If a guitar is naturally dark, I like a brighter pickup and vice versa!

  • I love your sound man!! What are your favorites Humbuckers for playing hard rock?

  • @archidamos Hey thanks man! I really liked the Fralin humbuckers. I'm back to the stock Burstbucker 1/2 combo now, but the Fralins were very nice.

  • Great sound man! You are a very good player also. Strong attack - the strings obey you. I have a set of Fralins in my Strat and now watching this movie I'm thinking about this humbs. Thanks for the movie.
