@germanicelt As a regional leader, a member of the United Nations, an open political supporter of political and civil rights being a liberal democracy and a signatory of various international treaties that support an international human rights regime I'd argue that it was in fact in our national interest to intervene. On a moral note are you saying intervention in Kosovo, Nazi Germany etc wasn't justified because it wasn't in the 'national interest' of governments. Typical realist.

This happen in 1999 1 yr after Soeharto. Military backed government was just ousted, there's a speculation that said during this time a military rogue element try to create a situation (like Ambon Riot, Assassination of religious cleric in East Java etc.) where public will distrust the new government, and make public feel that the Revolution was failed. I am Indonesian I grow up during this time.

False Flag Attack.. same as 911 in USA.

@HappytimeTom is that what you base as whats most important in running this country, having a sense of humour that appeals to mindless bogans like yourself?

lets finally grow some balls australia and just declare East Timor a territory of Australia, put a permanent base up there, and keep these indonesian thugs out.

The Google link no longer works, could you upload it again. I get the feeling that Google have dropped it because people were watching it. Cant have that when theres a war on terror to wage.

Interesting they use the ancient Euro/Jesuit method of "persuasion", live killings.
Everybody knows that the Indonesian military was behind the massacre of East Timor, but do you think it would've been smart for Howard to accuse the President of Indonesia for it and risk a full scale war when they had the intention of landing troops to protect the East Timorese? That would've been tactless and Howard knew it and didn't want to put our troops in more danger. Is that bad?

And finally, after assisting the Indonesian military in covering up the massacres, used the final independence outcome for political purposes, posing as the saviours.
International pressure forced in the peacekeepers.

Suharto invaded Timor in 1975 killing some 200,000 people.
Suharto was ousted in May 1998.

Yes that was 1975. That was supported by the Australian government also. Disgusting.
A couple of Australian journalists died trying to cover the invasion in 1975.
