The LaPorte Chamber of Commerce showed this last year ... I got a copy and with permission post it here for your enjoyment. I think this was about 1948. I don't know anyone in it, but I do remember some of the places that are now gone - but are here in the video. If you can add any information about people or definitive dates - let me know.

  • @Wowee2012 Yeah- I am 42 and I can remember back when I could hit the gas from the "STOP SIGN" at Beltway 8 and Fairmont and floor it all the way to Sylvan Beach- NOW, we have probably a dozen Starbucks between here and there along with a bunch of other crap. This used to be kind of out in the country when I was little-

  • WOW- You can stil see remnants of this time period when you drive thru there.

  • I wish I could have seen La Porte like this, =) That old movie theater just looks abandoned now. In fact half of Main Street looks like that. I just wish I could see it.

  • These images are precious memories. My dad is one of the kids standing in front of the old theatre. My parents, married over 50 years, were LaPorte High School sweethearts.☺) They're part of a LPHS alumni group that still get together for dinner/ events. Watching this footage is extremely bitter/sweet. Dad said that Calvin Bussy's the "spitten image" of his daddy Jake. "wowee2012", It's refreshing to see a young person with such a tender heart and a compassion for what's important. ♥

  • ... This made me cry and I'm only 17 years old. I wish LaPorte was still like this. Now every patch of grass is being filled with concrete, just look at Fairmont :( it's crazy to actually see your own town back in its early years. It's kind of surreal.

  • I really enjoyed this video - thank you so much! Downtown wasn't terribly different than shown in the early 70's!

  • @pegusus950 my pawpaw bought me a train from their o still have it to

  • This is a good place ima junior at the high school

  • I just graduated this year from La Porte and this place is home to all of us young and old forever. I will miss it dearly when I deploy to the Air Force. I can't believe this town was as awesome as it was then in this video, whoever posted this....it was a wild look back in time.

  • @mailbox65 I havent been there since 1987....from your comment I believe I'm better off remembering it the way it was :( I've heard it said," you can never go back home"
