@starfireelvis Race card, race card , race card, white America seem to want forget , real American history. Fact is fact. You seem to take it too personal. Chuck Willis was forgotten because of nasty racism, mostly from the white south. Racism is a part of American history as apple pie . Black enterainers had to deal with racism in the 1950's. FACT.

Chuck Willis' version is better because its his song. It became a "cover" when he passed away and everybody else began doing it.

Elvis could barely carry a tune. FWIW in my experience racism was just as bad if not worse in the north than and now. For the most part history was written by the north because they had the printing presses.

@lrush777 Elvis covered this song brilliantly. He showed a great deal of respect for the original version and sang it really well. Elvis had an eclectic musical taste, which was often blues. Elvis wasn't just a "pretty boy" he was a damn fine singer and artist. Chuck's version is brilliant.

@starfireelvis Sorry to be reviving such an old comment, but, without taking anything away from Elvis or Sam, there were always white guys who "got it." Look at Jimmie Rogers recording with Louis Armstrong or Eddie Lang recording with Lonnie Johnson before Elvis was even born.

Yes I agree.
