This video is dedicated to Elizabeth Hartman. She starred in one of my favorite movies "Patch of Blue" with Sidney Poitier & Shelly Winters, she won a Golden Globe for her amazing performance as a blind woman in love with a man who for the first time in her life shows her kindness, compassion & love. This movie was made in the 60's when there was a lot of racial tension & predjudice so I'm sure this movie must have been pretty controversial at the time but I love how Elizabeth plays the role of Selina with such conviction & vulnerability. I think it's so touching that she falls in love with Gordon because she can see more without her sight than many people can with perfect eyesight. It's a great movie & I highly recommend it!!

Here is a mini biography of her life:

Born: Dec.23,1943 Died: June 10,1987
Elizabeth Hartman was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the middle of three children. She soon appeared in a play, "A Clearing in the Woods", in high school and, at that point, she knew she wanted to be an actress.

After high school graduation, she was accepted at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spent a year there before leaving for New York where landed the role of "Selina D'Arcy" in A Patch of Blue (1965). She was nominated for an Academy Award and won the Golden Globe award. She went on to display amazing versatility in other films as well - as an upperclass collegiate in The Group (1966), a capricious, hurtful young flirt in You're a Big Boy Now (1966), and a decidedly offbeat performance as a nurse who tends to Clint Eastwood in the Gothic-styled The Beguiled (1971). Elizabeth also gave a deeply-felt stage performance as "Emily" in a production of "Our Town" in 1969. But, soon things went terribly wrong for this obviously fragile young lady. Plagued by acute depression and insecurity as she saw her once promising career decline sharply within a decade, she turned into a virtual recluse. Her last work was a voiceover job in the animated film The Secret of NIMH (1982). Nothing had been heard of Elizabeth for years until June 10, 1987, when it was reported that she had thrown herself out of a fifth-floor apartment window. Divorced for three years at the time of her death, it was learned that she had been an outpatient at a psychiatric hospital in Pittsburgh and had called her doctor earlier that fateful day informing him that she was despondent. A sad, sad end to an extremely bright and beautiful talent.

  • a lovely tribute to a wonderfully talented actress. I just saw a clip of "A Patch Of Blue" on TCM & was reminded of how moving Elizabeth Hartman's performance was in that film. I can just imagine her perfectly cast in "Our Town" as Emily. May she rest in peace.

  • @selloutasaurus Thank you so much for your lovely comments about my video & about Elizabeth.

Elizabeth gave a stellar performance in that movie & I love that movie so much. She was a very good actress & very talented it is a shame she died so young & that she was so unhappy.

I think she would have been great in Our Town too! It's a pity she will never have the chance to play her.

I just hope she is at peace now.

    RIP Elizabeth.

    God Bless!

  • She played a school teacher in Night Gallery. She was terrific. Too bad she ended it the way she did. Poor girl.

  • @mychaloh mental illness, why are women who become sad because of the way men value youth & appearance-OUTTER-always assumed to be mentally ill, when they decide to check out due to the way MEN ARE? look here on youtube at all the quote sexy models & semi nude & nude poses-for sexual purposes not for art. there is a difference!! THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO SAD THAT SHE JUMPED TO HER DEATH.

  • @BadZKarma99 in my opinion part of the reasons she may have committed suicide is the way "aging" women are looked at by men. I want to find out more.If I am not mistaken she had been divorced. And had a hard time dealing with it? And perhaps good roles just were not coming her way?

  • Thanks Hollyhock!! Have a good night!! God Bless!!
