A useful review, thanks! :-)

I had one of these and the battery melted whilst on charge ruined my kitchen work top. My mates stopped working in the middle of a technical trail.
Magic shine are cheap for a reason because it's junk!
I've now bought a Lupine Betty and peko which are awesome safe and won't/haven't let me down yet!

@macroinnovation And you may want to look at Japan attitude to american people, they most certainly are not an ally and tolerate us simply because we are buying from them.
-
damn good review thank you

For $85 bux I can deal with quality issues, lol... I recently spent $200 for a 250 lumen "quality" light :P
-
BTW, I have this light and the 814 three lamp model. I use the 808 on my helmet and I light up the trail like a supernova...OUTSTANDING lights!

It's ally and guess what, our country is already in debt to the max to China thanks to our politicians. If they called in their marker tomorrow the US would be bankrupt...

No rattpoison82 is wrong, Country of Origin does make a difference. When you don't have ANY jobs! Don't buy chinese, buy American when you can, and when you can't at least aim for an alley - Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, Phillipines.
Guess what? China is NOT an alley. PERIOD.

I think people should buy it before saying anything I have couple cygolites and put it this way they retail still today in 11 about 400 dollars for the 4 hundred somewhat lumen one and i have a 330 lumen I think for about 160 plus tax it was 200 and this magicshine light is much brighter by a long shot and the battery they use are used by companies like garmin and iv had it couple months and there's not a single problem with it dropped the head on concrete many times it has a tight aluminum he

@GreatWhiteNorthover Really? I thought GeoManGear is the main distributor in the US and their web site says they just got their first replacement batteries yesterday (4/15/11). Are you sure there wasn't two recalls?
Just an fyi, it isnt their product, it's made in china, mtbr is a mountain bike website/forum and this was a review of the light

w5monkey, knock it off. Everybody whines about global issues and uses guilt in a, "you're either with us, or Y0U'RE ruining everything." In reality, mtbr is helping people ride with a much more economical light that works. People who ride are happier people. Happier people make happier parents/employees. Now, THAT is something we all have real control over. We're just trying to survive here. Take a look at everything you use: car, kitchen appliances, mattress, clothing??Made in the USA?
