David Freese singles during a June 28 California League game between the Lake Elsinore Storm and Visalia Oaks. Freese, a third baseman, was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round of the 2006 First-Player Draft out of South Alabama. Freese batted .317/.395/.569 with 13 home runs and 70 RBI in his professional debut with the short season Single-A Eugene Emeralds and low Single-A Fort Wayne Wizards in 2006. Freese was named to the California League All-Star team in 2007.
