  • Whirly Bird is a classic from 1955 and hasn't lost it punch. Looked like Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis doing the sax solo, but not Sonny Payne on drums.

  • harold jones is on drums!*

  • lockjaw is amazing.

  • @lesbrown331 I just wonder if a video exists of the original "Atomic basie" - Lockjaw solo? For me one of the greatest ever tenor solos. Certainly Sony was perfection on the original recording. However Harold Jones was also the basie drummer - especially on the Sarah/ basie recording (my favourite "Just Friends")

  • Only 1 word to say. WOW!

  • Harold Jones swinging hard! I saw him recently with Tony Bennett

  • great drummer!

  • I had the pleasure of interviewing The Count when the band surprisingly played my high school back in the 70's(Woodrow Wilson H.S.,Levittown Pa,now known as Harry S.Truman H.S.)What a nice cat!! He was friendly and very relaxed, and talked to me between sets as if he had all the time in the world. As time goes on,I appreciate his bands, his piano style, and the great contribution he made to the great world of jazz.Long Live The Kid from Red Bank!!

  • Don't you hate it when old people say -- now this is real music; and man why did the big bands die? But this is real music you can hear hear God humming along and the Holy Spirit in the Swing and the improvisation. Now that's talking...

  • Harold Jones on drums, one of the nicest guys around. Of late, saw he was playing some dates with the great Tony Bennett. In the mid 80's I had the pleasure of working a job where Sarah Vaughan was headlining, with Harold on drums. I remember getting extra money for coming in early for sound check and letting Harold use my kit. He was so kind to a young kid from Texas. Parr-a-luck Mr. J, keep swingin' baby.

  • 6600 views? This is the stuff my band students need to find on YouTube! This band flies and you can't match the sound of the Basie Orchestra. Which the video wasn't cut off at the end.

  • yes -the Great Harold on Skins.....
