Dr. Helen Gichohi, President, African Wildlife Foundation
Partner: African Wildlife Foundation
The International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) hosted a Congressional Staff Briefing on the African Wildlife Foundation's (AWF) African Heartlands Program: Linking Protected Areas, Livelihoods, and Economic Growth with Dr. Helen Gichohi, President of the African Wildlife Foundation.
AWF's mission is to ensure the wildlife and wild lands of Africa will endure forever. Through their African Heartland's Program, AWF practices conservation in large landscapes that are both ecologically and economically viable.
African Heartlands combines national parks, local villages, and government- and privately-owned lands into large, cohesive conservation landscapes that often span international borders. These Heartlands, located throughout all sub-Saharan Africa, are where all of African Wildlife Foundation's work begins and ends. Dr. Helen Gichohi will give a synopsis of AWF's African Heartland programs, especially their success in linking protected areas, livelihoods, and economic growth.
