Recorded at Hammersmith Odeon, London December, 1984. Cold Warning/White Noise.

Its cold outside
And the paints peeling off of my walls
Theres a man outside
In a long coat, grey hat, smoking a cigarette

Now the light fades out
And Im wondering what Im doing in a room like this
Theres a knock on the door
And just for a second I thought I remembered you

So now Im alone
Now I can think for myself
About little deals
And *issues*
And things that I just dont understand
Like a white lie that night
Or a slight touch at times
I dont think it meant anything to you

So I open the door
Its the `friend that Id left in the hallway
Please sit down
A candle lit a shadow on a wall near the bed

You know I hate to ask
But, are `friends electric?
Mines broke down
And now Ive no one to love

So I find out your reason
For the phone calls and smiles
And it hurts
And Im lonely
And I should never have tried
And I missed you tonight
So its time to leave
You see this means everything to me

  • One of the best tracks ever made.

  • they say that the cold warning dvd is the same as the lp white noise, but that's not truth, because on white noise gary is laughing at the first bridge.

But except that it's great to see him perform like this.

  • @MyblueeyedTiger1 Yeah it was ahead of its time but you were 1 year off, 1979

  • One of the best versions of seminal classic! I wonder who did the dry cleaning of all those white suits - lol (iconic look though!)

  • THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS EVER.

  • Good God. It's a shame that no one can write music like this anymore. I believe when we hit the 90's...everything turned to shit. Now everyone wants to sing you out of the building by hitting every note possible vocally. That's not singing...that's the sound you make while riding a mule.

  • i've done this song myself, but i don't know if it's right and please view my channel, with thanks Patrick

  • 26 years later, still great. Saw him Nov. 4, 2010 in Los Angeles.

  • Stupendous!

    ¡Estupendo!

  • i can remember this like it was yesterday i was 17 and im proud to say i was there

  • best part 3:37
