I first had rice porridge when I worked at a Chinese restaurant in Maine USA.
It was a bitter cold winter morning and I had to shovel snow around the back door and walk ways. When I came in an old cook ladled me out a bowl and it was wonderful. I make it at home now especially in the winter during snow storms. Ginger garlic scullions salt pepper and whatever meat I have hanging around. I bet this dish is a happy memory comfort food for literally more than a billion people on planet Earth.
I think grits is the closest thing in america, but only a certain percent of americans eat grits.

I prefer eating this for breakfast than oatmeal. But if your watching your weight than the oatmeal is the way to go.
