I did not know this was about Monterey County until I went to the fabulous Al Jardine concert. I've been through Jolon alone many times!

The "south coast" of this song is Big Sur, California. Lillian Bos Ross, a resident of Big Sur from the 1920s-1950s, co-wrote the lyrics. Jolon is a town in the Salinas Valley, on the other side of the Santa Lucia mountains from Big Sur. Thanks for posting this song.

Great song, but so sad! This sounds just like the version I remember from my parents' "From the Hungry I" record.
It is the version from the Hungry I album. First one I ever bought , about 50 years ago.
