@Tarius729 thats right ,he adapted it,he started to use sparring as the main training method so discarded the crap that didnt work, thats why judo works and japjitsu doesnt so well for most people. They were calling it jujitsu but it wasnt, jujitsu had virtually no sparring, little to no groundwork(due to battlefield needs),it was trained via 2 man compliant forms like it still is in japan.

@scarred10 youre crazy. where do you think judo came from? kano adapted it from traditional jujutsu. at the time maeda went over to brazil, some people were still calling judo "kano jujutsu"
-
@Tarius729 its an offshoot of judo not jujitsu, the gracies never learned any jujitsu and neither did maeda.
-
the fact is that this art branched off from judo when helio started adapting techniques, just as judo branched off when kano continued jujutsu. kano's judo doesnt emphasize the ground techniques as much as bjj does. bjj became its own thing even with its roots in judo. and the gracie family simply founded this particular offshoot of japanese jujutsu.

lol "this is a very focused group" then watch the back round at 1:25

@SkemeKOS there was no founder, carlos learned judo and then started to adapt it along with helio and the entire family over the nexr 80 yrs or so.
-
@JordyBT wrong, helio never even met maeda,he was too young, carlos learned judo ,not juijitsu from maeda and later taught all the other brothers. You are also confusing helio with his own son royce
