Les Larmes de Jacqueline (Jacqueline's Tears) Op.76 No.2 / Harmonies du soir Op.68 composed by Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) and dedicated to Arsène Houssaye.
The performance is by Jacqueline Du Pre who played it beautifully.

  • this is not played by Jacqueline Du Pre. this is played by Werner Thomas with Münchener Kammerorchester. she had never recorded this piece.. anyway, thanks for upload. :)

  • @souvenirfidele Are you sure about this? If you are I have to upload it accordingly

  • Yes, superb. I've looked and can't find this recording anywhere. She's great, of course, but the recording is also great. I recently bought the boxed set of the complete EMI recordings and feel the quality of their recordings is quite poor. Can you share the record company and album title of this recording? Thanks!

  • @shakuzen7 Unfortunately I don't have neither the album nor that information. I'm sorry! My teacher gave the song to me digitally and it comes with no specifications. However if you could find that information please share it with me also ;)

  • Recording year?

  • @yund52 I'm sorry... I can't find that information.Somewhere arround 1965 - 1969 would be my guess...

  • Someone pressed the dislike button. I assume it was by done mistake, or else that person must be either tone deaf, or has lost his/her humanity.

  • What a gorgeous upper register. Her musicianship will never be forgotten.

  • @souvenirfidele That makes no sense whatsoever.

  • A piece of heavenly respite and comfort...

  • @yund52 Actually she had the Davidov in 1965 and played it through 1969,switching to her

Goffriller in late 1969 and switching to her Perresson in 1970,which had been commissioned by her husband Daniel Barenboim.

  • @HamburgBeets Beautiful thought for a beautiful lady. We must celebrate Jan 26 day. She was a good one. How lucky we are.

  • Very much like Jacqui but slower I think than she would have taken it. It is so incredibly moving. We (the Jacqui people) thank you for luring us into this garden of the Gods to hear such indescribably exquisite emotions. How can this be better? He is a good enough surrogate for Jacqui. Thanks much.

  • @biluka Thanks for your reply. I, too, just discovered that this is Werner Thomas-Mifune on cello. The playing is very much like Du Pre and I was fooled also. Doesn't matter in the end though - it's wonderful. I found the recording and have ordered it "Harmonies du Soir, Virtuose Celloromantik" (Amazon or CD Universe). Thanks for sharing it!

  • no commmmmmm

  • @biluka Oh, by the way, they say perhaps It's kind of a dedication for her why he named the piece like this. and If It's true, It's really wonderful thing, isn't it? ;)

  • @biluka Yes. This piece is officially published at 1985, discovered by Werner Thomas, and he is who gave a name 'Les Larmes de Jacqueline' to this piece.. However, as everybody knows well, Jacqueline had been ill at the time, as she couldn't play her cello. This piece is discovered at least ten years after from when she had retired. Well, You can find an exactly same track on this album: goo(dot)gl/YPZKl and you can check her disco/biography on Wikipedia or Official Website about her

  • Incredible.
