Preview of the "just do art book" by Suzanne DeMarco. This book teaches teachers and parents how to keep art in schools and homes in a time where there is no money for art! Creative, easy to learn, cheap projects that kids will love. The song is Us by Regina Spektor.

Art helps children develop critical thinking, creativity, and logical reasoning through tactile stimulation. It is a part of human nature and the introduction of art into culture is considered the "big bang" of the brain. It is what sets humans apart from animals, dating back to cavemen painting on walls.

Children need to learn about art and artists, and not only Picasso, DaVinci and Van Gough, but artists like Clementine Hunter; a black woman from the south who wasn't even allowed to see her own art hanging in the museum.

Art gives everyone a chance to indulge in imagination, and it allows kids to create tangible representations of the way they see the world and how they feel.

With budget cuts, teacher layoffs, and school closures, we cannot let art cease to be part of the curriculum. It is absolutely essential to a balanced education.

If we can't afford to pay for classroom teachers, we certainly can't afford to pay for art teachers, so they are often the first to go. It's time to take matters into our own hands. I created this book in the hope that art will never disappear from the classroom even if art teachers do

"just do art" is written for teachers and parents of school age children as a guide to teaching art on a low budget. You don't have to be an artist to be an art teacher.

I've been working on creating this book for the past decade. I've combined over ten years of experience teaching art to elementary school children into an easy to follow, step by step, and project by project, breakdown. Every project in the book incorporates a different California National Standard of Visual Art.

Projects range from 25-50 cents per student and can usually be finished in under 45 minutes. Sometimes a second session is needed if the pieces need time to dry.

Projects include but are not limited to, drawing the Mona Lisa, under the table with Michelangelo, "warm and cool colors with Peter Max" Primary colors with Marc Chagall, Portrait drawing with Modigliani as well as brief history of each artist.

In a world of budget cuts, where test scores are overshadowing the importance of creativity, we need to remember that art is critical to a child's growth and development, and that we can't afford to lose it in our schools.

Topics Include
Michelangelo, Picasso, Basquiat, Kahlo, Klimt, Klee, Seurat, Lichtenstein, Pollack, Lautrec, Magrette, Van Gogh, Carle, Grandma Moses, Hunter, Gauguin, Modigliani, Max, M.C Escher, Japanese ink printing, positive and negative spaces.
