This is just a quick 8-minute guide to all your basic info on bettas. If you have any questions please post them, and I'll try to answer them all.

Ford Prefect is a red Betta Splendens. These are a type of tropical, still-water fish. I myself live in a tropical, or hot anyway, climate, and I personally DO NOT require a heater, so can you stop badgering me about it! I have also researched this thouroughly, and have discovered that if one is planning to store only a single or pair of small fish in a tank, naturally occuring bacteria will do any filteration for you. I have owned Ford for over a year, and he is happy. He has recently out-grown his candle-holder, and has progressed to a gallon-1 1/2 gallon tank.

  • How is Ford doing? Is he still alive and kicking?

  • @bobasbestos yeah, just fed him actually. he keeps blowing bubbles up to the surface, i reckon it's breeding behaviour.

  • Axolotls need a lot more water than 1.2 gallons :/ at least 10 gallons per animal. Laboratories house them in small tanks, but you shouldn't.

  • @Adhemar05 i never actually said it would only need 1.2 gallons, that was just a temp. water change tank if i was doing a major cleaning or moving job. Their actual tank is in the background and it was 24 gallons. I then moved them to a home-made tank of about 100 gallons and it weighs a TONNE! I don't filter that either, but I do regular changes (every week or so)

  • LOL your face at 0.34 haha

  • @TheRANDOMboys2 i admit, that is rather funny

  • You don't really take a good care for your Betta. No hiding place?heater?plant?decoration?

  • I it's 10 litres it's actually 2 1/2 gallons which isn't a ridiculously small container but is not ideal. Did you heat his tank when you put him in the 2 1/2 gallon? Did you give him plenty of hiding places? Did you acclimate him properly? My bettas in a 15 gallon on his own and he's not freaked out. In fact from what I've seen he loves it. He swims around patrolling his tank all day:)

  • I never knew that but my female betta is in a 1 gallon tank with a heater, pumper ,and filter.

  • trust me on this. every species has a few weirdos. Ford has spent plenty of time in bigger tanks, and he genuinely doesn't like it.

    thanks for not being obnoxious!
