SL Tamils are a result of the cholan invaders who invaded an established Sinhalese Buddhist civilisation.That's why SL Tamils are Hindu and only a minority of 12.6%.

SL Tamils are genetically related to the Sinhalese cos a lot of SL Tamils were actually originally Sinhalese who lived in Jaffna and surronding areas and were subsequently Tamilized during Cholan invasions which occured after the 10th century.Even the eminent Tamil scholar Mr Rasanayagam described this in detail.

Not a single shred of documentary,archeological or monumentary evidence(not even a single indigineous Tamil inscription!) has ever been found in the british demarcated N&E provinces(or anywhere in SL for that matter!)s to prove that a "tamil homeland" existed in those regions.Sinhalese inscriptions and ancient Buddhist temples found in these regions prove Sinhalese lived there before being ousted by cholan invaders.

Sri Lanka's close proximity to Tamil Nadu doesn't prove in anyway that Tamils came first.For example Korea comes into very close proximity with Japan but there has never been an indigineous Korean presence in Japan.The only Koreans present in Japan are those who arrived after world war 2 in search of jobs.

The LTTE are gone. Now its time to move on. To build a peaceful Sri Lanka where Tamils are not discriminated against, and do not feel that the Sinhalese Majority are against them, and do not feel the need to resort to violence in a quest to establish a separate state. Sri Lanka belongs to Sri Lankans. Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Bughers. It is not a country that belongs only to Sinhala Buddhists.
Also, madurawx86, your facts are wrong. The discrimination against the Tamils started in 1956.
