Protein, carbohydrate, and fat all have their own pathways for metabolism. In the case of fat, it is separated from protein and carbohydrates through the initial digestion process in the stomach. Then, in the small intestine, it is absorbed through the microvilli and is repackaged into a delivery particle called a chylomicron. These chylomicrons travel through the lymphatic system and are delivered to fat cells for storage, or to muscle cells for energy. From Lecture Two of the 2004 Holiday Lectures Series "The Science of Fat."

  • This is absolutely wrong.

Excess animal fats that you eat are broken down and excreted through a process known as lipolysis and ketosis. It is not animal fats that make you fat, it is sugar, corn syrup and high glycemic index carbohydrates.

  • @AppleSouffle : You have to understand what is lipolysis. Lipolysis only occurs when there is a energy demand. Lipolysis is regulated by a two proteins, Insulin and AMP dependent kinase, when insulin decreases and AMP level increases then it happens. Unless a person dont utilize his ATPP lipolysis not occurs. And thus by lipogensis free fatty acid are stored as Triglyceride in Fat cells and liver.

  • @AppleSouffle : If you have doubts feel free to ask.

  • @TheHealthScience, I love how every biologist, chemist, scientist, whatever, reads a few textbooks, takes some tests and gets a degree and suddenly they understand the structure of the universe. Arrogance breeds ignorance. The truth is we just don't have the technology to have all the answers. Science is only as good as the current research and technology but it's constantly being changed when knew information is discovered. We can make educated guesses and that is all.

  • I didn't see any errors in what he mentioned.
