The "ebanol" neck is specifically designed to not pit and rut. It is more durable than an ebony board. It is advertised to handle round-wound strings without wearing out.
If you got this bass with a real wood board, you'd have to have the finger board refinished or replaced every 5 years or so if you used rounds on it.

I just picked one up... must say, I am somewhat concerned with the "polymer" neck... how has the wear and tear been? I like playing with roundwounds... are you finding they eat into the finish quickly?

@DaBrizzy I owned it for about a year and I bought it already used. It was from 2008 if I'm not mistaken. I didn't notice any wear and it seemed really "solid" to me. I used halfwounds, and the fretboard was holding up pretty well. Some marks, but nothing to bad.
