  • Audiences are bizarre.

Sometimes one slightly poorly received joke can absolute ruin the tone of the room, and that sinking feeling when you realise its happening is indescribable.

That moment when you realise, fuck, I'm about to say the punchline, and there's literally no chance what so ever that anyone has even realised what I am saying is a joke. I had a gig like that on tape. Didn't have the bollocks to put it up on youtube though.

Good on you for doing it.

    Fuck the Bahamas.

  • Thanks although the Bahamas is great. The 12 shows preceding this one were fine as was my run there the previous year. I'm not blaming The Bahamas or the audience. It was what it was.

  • What was the size of the audience Joel? I have done similar gigs and people have said afterwards that they thought it was great even though I never got much energy or response back from the audience

  • I've done plenty like that too. This was not one of those, I promise you. There were about 80 people there -

s a few less by the end!

  • True - they don't but it's an American audience.

  • I couldnt watch this all , to painful , that room just wasnt feeling it

  • For as few laughs as you were receiving, you did a really good job not getting rattled and maintaining your composure. Tough crowd.

  • haha no I'm kidding I'd love to go there.

But yeah as you say its really hard to work out what it is, as you say the audience is there because they want to laugh, and you are there because you want to make them laugh.

I'd be interested in looking into the psychology of the room dynamics...

  • Well I wouldn't say you 'imploded' mate, I think you are being a bit tough on yourself.

It has always amazed me that one set of 80 people can roar with laughter to a gag, then the next night another random 80 people and the gag hits silence?

  • I didn't think they had WalMarts in the Bahamas. I always thought the Bahamas was a land of paradise, erego, no WalMarts.
