Nine Pound Hammer

Here's the classic. I play it in A, as that's what fits my voice. The soloing is just a hint at what might be done with a full band. It's hard to play a meaningful solo without other players, in my opinion. The sounds from the other players decide what you should play.

man, that break is RIGHT on my level, but i cant figure out how to play it to save my life. ive been trying for 3 days bro. HELP ME PLEASE!

I'm happy to help. I am playing in the open A position to start. There is an A major scale down on the first few frets and with some open strings. Think "Old Joe Clark" area of the fret board.

The other part o the break goes up to the closed A chord position. Do a Google search for "Monroe Style" and "chord boxes." That will help.

Have you ever tried having the camera above your shoulder and filming your breaks that way? I believe it would make it easier to see where you are placing your fingers.
