you guys know they buy them as babies from Japanese whalers who killed their parents right? Same thing with dolphins, the babies fetch up to 300 grand a piece.

@Nizingur also, all breeding done in these places would not be suitable for conservation efforts,as the breeding is not adaptive to their natural environment. Here's a quote from a scientific paper for you:Christensen1982,1984sugges
ted that for killer whales off Norway, pregnancy could occur as early as 6-8years.Estimated age at first pregnancy for whales in captivity was9 years for a North Pacific female[Duffield and Miller,1988,9-13years for Icelandic females in the Sea World breeding program -
@Nizingur i'm not making up figures here, go on google scholar and look this stuff up on proper scientific papers on animal welfare and conservation. If these animals bred successfully in captivity, they wouldn't have to take 20% from the wild. Personally i think that figure is frightening. also i suspect they are artificially bred, though i'd have to look it up. i suggest you do too.

@staycalmadmitnothing So how do you explain that 80% of their killer whales are bred at SeaWorld's own facilities?
-
@RoyalYorkPercy They're not endangering the species in any way when they're not removing any animals from their habitat. 80% of the whales they have are bred at their facilities. In other words, they're increasing the population, not decreasing it.

@advancerk Apparently there's an app soon to be introduced for that :))))

@VesNir To be honest, since this type of "amusement" park is opened for profit-making, it's not really saving these endangered species. One could argue that they're actually aiding in endangering these animals for the sole benefit of making money. Now of course, if this amusement park had opened its door free of charge and for the sole benefit of providing education to the public, it might be a slightly different story.
